Looking like she just rolled out of Mad Max III, bleach-blonde and all dressed in black Chan Marshall aka Cat Power is hanging out in the desert waiting on a friend at in the new video for “Cherokee,” taken from her latest album, Sun (Matador). Then all choreographed hell breaks loose as weird zombie types arrive and it doesn’t look good. Ray guns are fired and ass is hauled. Now, is Chan trying to pair the title of the song and the accompanying visuals as some kind of metaphor about the Native Americans and the arrival of the European colonists albeit in a futuristic wasteland? I don’t know. But it all gets worked out in the end, and that’s all that matters, right? Cat Power will be embarking on a European tour throughout November and December with a date at the Roundhouse in London on December 12.
